Job Title: Insulation Installer - carpenter - Company: Location: Pittsburgh, PA Description: Hey there, I am building a young company that is seeing real growth. What we do is retrofit existing homes in the Pittsburgh and Southwest PA area with high performance insulation retrofits. Typically that means dense packing exterior walls with cellulose insulation, air sealing attic decks and topping them off with cellulose, spray foaming basement rim-joists, etc. When done right, home owners see their heating / cooling bills drop by 20-50%, their carbon footprint drop by a similar amount, and their home become much more comfortable (bc un-insulated walls suck in Jan...). I am looking to train and put together at least one crew. Skill sets I'm looking for are basic carpentry, a serious work ethic, an ability to problem solve, and some common sense. I have found that bigger guys are not ideal for this work. So if you're 6'3 and 240 lbs this will not work for me or you. We work in a lot of smaller spaces. The insulation that I use, cellulose, is not the scratchy itchy pink stuff...it's shredded newspaper and although a little dusty brushes off easily at the end of the day. We also use high quality face masks/ respirators so you don't have to worry about breathing dust, etc, but it's completely non-toxic at the same time. I'm looking to start people at $10 an hour and work up from there--quickly if you're worth it, less quickly if you have knack for making small scale disasters happen. I'm looking to keep good people compensated well and happy. If you have significant prior experience doing this work we can talk on the starting wage. There will be bonuses twice a year. If you've got a legit work ethic, attitude, and are consistently are on time---I'll be looking to keep you on board for years---and I'm serious about that. There is almost an unlimited amount of work out there for decent outfits in this space. We work anywhere from 35-50 hours a week and ten hour days are the norm. Typically we meet either at my storage facility off 279 in the north hills or at the job itself between 7:30 and 8:00am. Often we'll work 4 ten hour days and take the friday off. Some times we'll jam out a 50 hour week and you'll get serious overtime pay. You will rack up serious and consistent hours with me and no BS with getting paid. I'm not a d*ck boss, but I've worked for plenty. I insist on having a good time while working, even when the work is hard. That said, my business, Alpine Insulation Solutions, www.alpineinsulate.com , is not your Uncle Darrel's insulation business. I am a credentialed Building Performance Analyst through the BPI Institute as well as an Energy Auditor through the Residential Energy Services Network. I analyse the houses we work on to figure out what its problems are, and then meticulously go about air sealing it prior to blowing any insulation. This is not the business that backs up the truck , a few guys get out and flick cigarette butts on the lawn and driveway for 15 minutes, and then blow some sh*t in people's attics in a half-assed way and ask for a check. Do you know a spade bit from a hole saw? Must have valid Ohio driver's license and good driving record. Installer uses ladders and hammer drills to insulate homes. Lifting of 30 pound bags of insulation required. Self starter must be comfortable using ladders occasionally to second story height. Construction experience beneficial.
