Job Title: Gantry Crane Operator Company: Location: Vicksburg, MS Description: Operates hand controls in lowing, picking up, raising and positioning articulated concrete mattress from mattress supply barge to fabricating deck of mat boat. Exercises skill and alertness in the rapid and simultaneous lowering of frame in exact position over concrete mattress for hooking in about 20 wire "loops," hoisting attached mattress, conveying through bridge boom, and tracking into position; lowering mattress to an exact position on the fabrication deck and rollers; and rapidly repositioning and completing the cycle. Must be extremely alert to workmen engaged in hooking and unhooking mat frame; fabricating mattress, and other gantry cranes, all working in close proximity and in heavily congested areas, since the primary emphasis is on speed and production and the exceptional potential dangers that are inherent.
