Welding in the 6g position tests your ability to reposition your body, it tests if you can weld left handed, and it tests being able to weld in all positions, flat, horizontal, overhead, and vertical.) We DO NOT require you to have a certification, but you MUST possess the ability & experience with stainless steel stick welding. If you are NOT familiar with the 6-G test you will NOT be considered for the position. Makes a wide-range of welds, from simple to precision welding, including welds of dissimilar metals. Determines disassembly or repair necessary, and materials to be used. Works with light, heavy gauge and hardened metals, i.e., mild steel, carbon alloy steel, stainless steel, copper on brass, brass on stainless steel, cast iron, nickel and bronze. Uses electric, oxyacetylene, oxyhydrogen gas metal arc, gas tungsten arc, and gas carbon arc welding processes to weld metal parts and structures ranging from .025 inches to very thick metal which requires multiple welding passes. Devises special jigs and fixtures to hold parts to be welded. Positions and clamps work, preheats metal and maintains temperature to prevent distortion. Incumbent utilizes computers and software, including Corps-developed software.
