Job Title: High Voltage Electrician Company: Monsanto Location: Saint Louis, MO Description: Under minimal supervision, the High Voltage Electrician is required to interpret work orders and perform all duties related to emergency and general maintenance and repairs to equipment and research buildings. This position also performs preventive maintenance, modifies, installs and maintains electrical systems up to 15,000 volts. This position will work closely with project engineers, environmental representatives, contractors and vendors. This position will also work closely with customers to meet their service needs in cost-effective ways.Primary Responsibilities:· Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the site high-voltage electrical distribution system including: operation of substation protective relay systems, troubleshooting outages and faults, preparing feeder switching orders and planning preventive maintenance.· The incumbent assembles, installs, operates, calibrates, trouble-shoots, dismantles and repairs all types of electrical equipment.· Possesses the ability to design plans and specifications to facilitate preventive maintenance on building electrical infrastructure.· Properly maintains and controls the electrical distribution system to provide a reliable source of electricity to all areas.· May serve as maintenance advisor to engineering in material selection, documentation, calibration, testing and problem solving methodology, project scope and follow up.· Maintains electrical systems from 120 volt lab equipment to complex boiler and chiller controls with voltages up to 15,000 volts.· Maintains and controls site-wide distribution systems.· Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on all electrical equipment, switchgear and distribution systems.· Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs electrical systems and equipment.· Utilizes test equipment to test motors, control circuits, motor drives, UPS systems, batteries, grounding, isolated power, ground-fault circuits/outlets, voltage and other load conditions.· Inspects and performs safety tests on lighting/outlet circuits, generators, motors, appliances, tools, etc. Ensures all circuits are properly protected and systems/equipment are installed and maintained in accordance with the provisions of the NEC and other regulatory requirements.· Uses trade tools and equipment to install conduit systems, pull wire, fabricate mounting hardware, drill and secure fasteners, install outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, motors, drives, transformers, distribution panels, disconnects and other electrical devices.· Receives written or verbal work order assignments, determines priority, appropriate resolution and repairs circuits/components in a manner consistent with safe technical work practices. Recommends repairs or improvements to ensure equipment or system are maintained in a high state of reliability and operating efficiency.· Coordinates electrical work and system shutdowns with the user community, building managers and team personnel. Ensures electrical shutdowns are properly scheduled and work activity is performed within our guidelines for utility system shutdowns.· Reviews designs and specifications for planned work and ensures project work meets our safety, quality and maintainability standards. Works with contractors/project managers and assists with the commissioning and project acceptance process.· Completes appropriate records/reports and maintains equipment history files in a manner that will facilitate knowledge of system configuration and performance. Ensures all breakers, disconnects, etc. are properly marked as to the circuits they control.· Demonstrates ability to show ownership of building electrical infrastructure configuration.· Issues LO/TO permits and ensures work is performed in a manner consistent with established work practices and quality standards.· Provides training to other team members to ensure continued customer support during an absence.· Follows policies and procedures, completes all necessary documentation and time reporting accurately and on time.· Provides support to co-workers, contractors, vendors, project managers, building managers and engineers as necessary to support project renovation work.· Works safely and reports all potentially unsafe conditions.·Travel on occasionbetween the Chesterfield and Creve Coeur Monsanto locations.
