Job Title: Sheet Metal Mechanic CNC Company: L3 Communications Location: Norfolk, VA Description: Qualifications ? The candidate must have in-depth understanding of layout to include electrical enclosures, shipboard ventilation, locker fabrication, and close-tolerance chassis and electronic enclosures fabrication. The candidate must have six (6) years experience in a production shop environment in precision sheet metal component fabrication, to include bend deduction calculations. The candidate must have the ability to read blueprints as well as work in prototype and close dimensional tolerances. Job Title: Sheet Metal Worker/Pipefitter Company: Norfolk Southern Corporation Location: Roanoke, VA Description: Sheet Metal Worker/Pipefitter Job Description: The type of work requires that the sheet metal workers and pipefitters have experience in sheet-metal work and pipe work as it applies to buildings, machinery, locomotives, etc. They may be required to work with tin, sheet iron, or sheet copper; and must be capable of bending, fitting, and brazing of pipe. Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters must be able to operate various machine tools and equipment associated with this work. Welding may also be a part of the job. Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters will also be involved in the rebuilding of locomotives and mechanical component parts as well as the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities. Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters are subject to working various shifts with the possibility of rest days being scheduled on non-weekend days. They may be subject to working overtime that would be paid at the overtime rate. Training All new hires should expect to spend one week at Norfolk Southern’s training facility in McDonough, Georgia, 35 miles south of Atlanta on I-75, for orientation/safety training. McDonough Training Center combines classroom and field instruction. Norfolk Southern will reimburse travel to and from McDonough. While in McDonough, Norfolk Southern will provide hotel lodging and a meal allowance. The major portion of training for Student Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters will be done at their home point where they will be paid the applicable rate as listed below. Pay Rates During the first eight weeks of employment, Student Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters will earn $450 per week. Applicants who do not qualify as journeymen are subject to a 2-year training program, after which they will receive full rates. The full union scale for Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters is $25.07. The rate progression for Students Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters is as outlined: Year Percent of Full Rate Approximate Amount /hour 1st year 75% of full rate $18.80/hour 2nd year 80% of full rate 20.06/hour After Two Years 100% of full rate $25.07/hour In order to progress to the next rate level, employees must complete 244 creditable days of training in their current step rate. Upon completion of 488 creditable days of training, Student Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters will be considered journeymen.
