Job Title: Sheet Metal Worker/Pipefitter Company: Norfolk Southern Corporation Location: Roanoke, VA Description: Sheet Metal Worker/Pipefitter Job Description: The type of work requires that the sheet metal workers and pipefitters have experience in sheet-metal work and pipe work as it applies to buildings, machinery, locomotives, etc. They may be required to work with tin, sheet iron, or sheet copper; and must be capable of bending, fitting, and brazing of pipe. Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters must be able to operate various machine tools and equipment associated with this work. Welding may also be a part of the job. Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters will also be involved in the rebuilding of locomotives and mechanical component parts as well as the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities. Sheet Metal Workers/Pipefitters are subject to working various shifts with the possibility of rest days being scheduled on non-weekend days. They may be subject to working overtime that would be paid at the overtime rate. Training All new hires should expect to spend one week at Norfolk Southern’s training facility in McDonough, Georgia, 35 miles south of Atlanta on I-75, for orientation/safety training.
