Job Title: Lead Cable Technician Company: L3 Communications Location: Washington, DC Description: Conduct site surveys and make recommendations on infrastructure design for red and black fiber optic cabling and CAT-5/6 copper cabling systems for government facilities. Review drawing packages for technical accuracy and analyze manpower and scheduling requirements. Lead teams installing fiber/CAT-5 and deploying IT equipment in small to large government facilities (both refurbishment and new offices). Troubleshoot testing and installation problems. Skilled in conduit bending. General knowledge of a wide range of materials used in successful red/black networks. Ten years plus of experience in fiber optic infrastructure design, installation and testing for secure and non-secure LAN/WAN. Experience with IT equipment installation. High School Diploma plus appropriate technical training, either military or commericial or both. Prefer some college. Substantial experience with single and multi-mode fiber, with MTRJ/ST and SC plus pre-terminated technology. Capability to splice and terminate fiber; skilled use of OTDR and power meters to test cable systems; wide knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and ways to prevent installation problems; knowledge about installation of copper cabling; knowledge of proper implementation of EIA/TIA Standards for fiber installations.
