Alarm Technician Kent School District Kent, WA OPENING DATE: March 1, 2010 CLOSING DATE: March 16, 2010 LOCATION: Alarm Technician HOURS/MONTHS: 8 hours / 12 months SALARY: $25.27 per hour SHIFT HOURS: To be determined ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is part of the AFT bargaining unit. ASSIGNMENT: The Kent School District is seeking applications for an alarm technician. The purpose of this position is to perform highly skilled work installing, repairing, and maintaining commercial intrusion alarm systems and components throughout the district. This position also provides support when needed for troubleshooting, testing and repairing fire alarm systems; and provides guidance and assistance to less experienced workers. Essential job duties: Tests, installs, operates, and maintains all types of intrusion alarm systems; support and follow energy and resource conservation measures; adjust and calibrate, and operate equipment and test instruments used in the electrical trade; use hand and power pipe cutters and threaders, bending tools, drills, amp meters, and multi-meters; working on staging, ladders, lifts, and scaffolding; perform maintenance, installations, and inspections required by RCW, WAC, and NEC; evaluate, inspect, and commission intrusion alarm installations in new construction and other contractual work; read blueprints and schematics as required to perform installation and maintenance building services; this position also requires strenuous manual labor for climbing, over-head work, and ditching for underground services. The candidate will also provide guidance and assistance to less experienced workers. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must have valid Washington State journey level low voltage electrician's license (EL06). 2. Must have considerable knowledge of Napco and Silent Knight Intrusion panels and other dialer/communicator equipment. 3. Must have knowledge in electronic communications, computerized work order systems, and Windows based systems. 4. Must have knowledge of electrical theories, principles, and application. 5. Must have knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the electrician's trade. 6. Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local standards and codes relating to intrusion alarms, fire alarms and related equipment. 7. Must have knowledge of battery calculations and testing procedures. 8. Ability to install, program, troubleshoot and maintain intrusion alarm panels and equipment to include zone expanders, power supplies, batteries, PIR detectors, magnetic door switches and EOL resistors. 9. Ability to troubleshoot fire alarm problems and perform corrective maintenance and repair of fire alarm systems and equipment. 10. Meet the physical requirements for the positions: able to lift to 50 pounds on regular basis; able to climb ladders to reach roof and attics, be able to work effectively in tight quarters, perform work safely and efficiently off of lifts and scaffolding.
