Institution Western University Position Title HVAC Technician / Facilities and Physical Plant Job Location Pomona, CA Description Job Title: HVAC Technician / Facilities and Physical Plant Description: Provides support by installing, maintaining and modifying campus heating ventilation, air conditioning systems and generators for a clean and comfortable climate. Description of Duties and Tasks: 1. Provides support by taking measurable reports of heating ventilation, air conditioning equipment, making appropriate changes, adjustments to meet running standards according to manufacturers design and operating efficiencies. 2. Determines acceptable operation by taking proper voltage and amperage readings of electrical and mechanical components, and maintaining correct refrigeration charge according to outside, return air, and supply air temperatures by taking proper pressure, temperature reading cycles. 3. Installs new units or replaces parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Installs power supply wiring and conduits for newly installed machines, equipment and programmable controllers. 4. Tests, diagnoses and repairs malfunctioning machinery. 5. Installs, tests and repairs / replaces ballasts, electrical circuits, equipment and appliances. 6. Provides support by maintaining comfortable condition of air and proper equipment operation for heating and cooling, and performing preventative maintenance by regular inspections. 7. Provides support by repairing doors, closures, hinges, replacing, repairing restroom-plumbing fixtures, lighting, running communication, electrical wiring, and cables. 8. Responsible for the maintenance of University backup generators (2) and response during power failures as needed. This is a 3 person "on call' team for emergencies. 9. Performs related work on / off campus at different University sites. 10. Prepares and follows an electrical maintenance schedule, processing Service Requests on a timely basis. Provides information by answering electrical inquires and requests, programming lighting, assisting vendors and orientating any maintenance person(s) that are required to assist. Completes University setups, as required. 11. Assists Director of Facilities and Physical Plant with determining future costs for upgrades and / or maintenance of the electrical system 12. Must have a valid driver's license with a clean DMV report. Skills: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. 1. Journeyman skill level with the ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems related to commercial office buildings. 2. Ability to read commercial building blueprints and electrical control schematics. 3. Ability to follow all rules of safety for electrical and / or maintenance work that is requested and or given. 4. Prior experience with heating, air conditioning equipment, hand tools, and any other tools necessary to perform the duties of this position. 5. Good mathematics, and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical skills. 6. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with administration, faculty, staff, and outside contacts. 7. Ability to handle detail-oriented assignments and be flexible with job assignments. Ability to organize and prioritize workload in order to meet necessary deadlines. Qualification Standards: 1. Education: Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Minimum of a High School Diploma AND EPA certificate required. 2.
